The Samsung Galaxy S6’s internals have been dissected again and again and again over the past few months that we all pretty much already know the phone like the back of our hand, even when nobody has seen it yet except the people who are working to build it.

While talks and discussions on its appearance, screen, RAM, processor, camera and what not have been never-ending, the battery aspect receives lesser attention. Now, fresh reports from the Korean media have shed some light on it, and it won’t make for some happy reading.

If what they claimed turns out to be true, the S6 will only pack a 2,600mAh battery, which is unimpressive at best. Factor in the previous flagship S5 being equipped with a 2,800mAh juice pack, one wonders what had went wrong.

In what will turn out to be a double-whammy, it is almost a given that the S6 will be housed in a metal unibody chassis and that potentially means the back cover is non-removable.

We can only hope that the S6’s processor will be able to optimize the battery use efficiently and the battery life will last just as long as the S5 (that’s the least we can hope for).

Smartphone manufacturers such as Apple and Samsung will be facing trouble competing in the high-end market against the likes of Chinese and Taiwanese companies which are capable of offering similar devices but at a fraction of the price.

This is all according to Daniel Pang, senior research manager at IDC Market Research (M) Sdn Bhd. He adds that while most Malaysians would rather have a high-end device, the bad times force them to go for a cheaper option instead.
At time of writing, IDC’s Asia Pacific Mobile Phone Tracker shows that Chinese and Taiwanese vendors command 46% market share of the Malaysian smartphone market in the first three quarters of 2014 as opposed to 19% in the entirety of 2013.

Apart from being the more economical choice, Chinese and Taiwanese manufacturers have been churning out smartphones with comparable specifications to that of high-end devices by big name companies at just fraction of the cost. For example, the Huawei Honor 6 is sold for RM 999, which is half of the asking price of similar devices in the market. Of course, hardware alone does not instantly make it a winner. User experience has always played an important role, something which Apple and Samsung understands all too well. Of course, given them Chinese and Taiwanese smartphone manufacturers will eventually be able to learning to allocate resources to improve their device’s UI, rather than just simply reskinning it.

Apple is planning an initial run of more than 5 million Apple Watches, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal.

The Cupertino company has apparently ordered between 5 and 6 million units of its forthcoming smart watch from its Asian suppliers for its first quarter on sale. The $349 budget Apple Watch Sport will reportedly account for half of these — around 2.5 million, with the standard Apple Watch making up “one-third of output” — roughly 1.6 million. This suggests the last 0.9 million will be the most expensive 18K gold Apple Watch Edition.

It’s an extremely ambitious goal for the wearables market. As TechCrunch notes, just 720,000 Android Wear devices were sold in 2014. Apple intends to surpass this with its high-end gold Apple Watches alone.

Prices for the Apple Watch Edition aren’t confirmed yet, but rumours peg the price point at somewhere between $1,200 and $5,000. The WSJ believes it’ll be more than $4,000 — making it “among the most expensive products the company has ever sold.”

The Wall Street Journal reports that around 11.8 million Apple Watches are expected to ship in 2015, according to ABI Research.

Despite the price, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak doesn’t think Apple will struggle to shift the units. He says it’s a “little piece of art,” and that “million of people will buy this watch right from the start.”

Chinese technology giant Xiaomi has scored another win: In 2014, it officially became the the single largest smartphone seller in China, TechCrunch reports.

In 2013, Xiaomi’s market share of smartphone shipments was 5.3%. In 2014, that rose to 12.5%, according to new data from IDC. In doing so, it unseated Samsung: The beleaguered South Korean manufacturer’s market share of shipments dropped from 18.8% to just 7.9% over the same timeframe.

Samsung has had a difficult year. It has seen its profits crater in recent months, something commonly attributed to the runaway success of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. Previous data from the South Korean market, for example, shows that Apple’s rise in the country almost perfectly mirrors Samsung’s decline.

Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun shows the company’s smartphone sales growth.

Apple’s shipments in China have also grown markedly over the last year. In Q3 of 2013 it was 7.4%; a year later, and it was 12.3%. But the ongoing rise of Xiaomi shows that Apple’s not the only smartphone company seeing growth in Asia.

Xiaomi is sometimes referred to as the “Apple of China,” and has been criticised for producing devices that bear remarkable similarities to iPhones. Apple design boss Jony Ive has labelled the designs of Xiaomi’s phones as “theft.” But its more recent models have eschewed the Apple aesthetic in favour of a simple, elegant glass design. And as IDC’s data shows, they’re highly successful.

Xiaomi pursues a very different business model to Apple, selling high-spec smartphones for low prices. The average price of Android devices are dropping around the globe — but Xiaomi handsets retail for even less than that average. And despite this, reviews suggest that their products may actually be technically superior to Apple’s.

Asia is an increasingly important market for Apple. Analysts believe it sold more iPhones in the China than it did in the US in 2014. Apple is also doubling down on its retail presence in the country. This is why Xiaomi’s ongoing success is a big deal for Apple — China is now essentially Apple’s most important market. Almost uniquely for an Android smartphone manufacturer, Xiaomi has created a famously devoted fanbase, and it’s now producing a line of products that can go toe-to-toe with the iPhone.

For now, this conflict is confined to Asian markets. Xiaomi exec Hugo Barra has said we shouldn’t expect to see the company’s smartphones sold in the West for a “few years.” But Xiaomi is already starting to make inroads. In the first half of 2015, the company is to begin sales in Brazil — Latin America’s single-largest economy. And in the coming months, it also plans to start selling earbuds, wristbands and small branded accessories in the US.

Apple has yet to officially enter the virtual reality space, but a new patent proves that Apple has been at least thinking about VR.

Apple was just awarded a patent titled “Head-Mounted Display Apparatus for Retaining a Portable Electronic Device with Display,” which details a virtual reality headset powered by an iPhone or iPod, according to Apple Insider.

The headset would use the iPhone’s screen as the headset’s primary display, allowing users to slot their iPhone into the headset’s frame when they want to use it for virtual reality. The patent, first filed in 2008, also includes images of a remote that could be used to interact with the device since the iPhone’s multitouch display won’t be accessible from within the headset.

If the idea of a smartphone-powered virtual reality headset sounds familiar, that’s because Samsung has already released one with its Gear VR headset.

The Gear VR uses a Galaxy Note 4 as its primary display, which is slotted onto the front of the headset when in use. Samsung teamed up with Oculus, creators of the much-anticipated Oculus Rift, for the Gear VR. The deal reportedly allowed Samsung to feature Oculus’ in-house technology, software, and branding in exchange for Samsung giving Oculus access to its mobile display supply chain for future iterations of the Oculus Rift.

The Gear VR has received mostly positive reviews, with most critiques aimed at the small amount of content available at the device’s launch. While it’s still very much early days for virtual reality games and experiences, Apple could leverage its close relationships with app developers and the thriving App Store to create a virtual reality-enabled apps, and the iPhone’s popularity would mean consumers would only have to purchase the VR headset.

It’s not hard to imagine Apple taking a stab at virtual reality if enough interest is there. It certainly has all the ingredients already in place. It could also build an augmented reality product similar to the Microsoft HoloLens: the company patented “interactive holograms” over two years ago. But, of course, Apple has filed countless patents for devices and technologies that haven’t made it into actual consumer products.

You can look at the entire patent filing right here.

Snapchat may soon be the third most-valuable startup in the world, behind Uber and China’s Xiaomi.

Bloomberg is reporting that the mobile photo platform is seeking $500 million at a $16-19 billion valuation, and that it’s speaking with fund managers to close the new round.

The app raised $485 million late last year from a slew of investors, according to an SEC filing. This would bring the company’s total amount raised to more than $1 billion.

The funding report comes on the heels of another rumor: that Snapchat wants to buy an expensive record label, Big Machine, which could cost an estimated $350 million. Big Machine represents Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel’s former fling, Taylor Swift.

Since its founding in 2011, Snapchat’s growth has continued to be strong. It could be approaching 200 million monthly active users and it has tens of millions of daily active users. In leaked emails between Spiegel and his board member Mitch Lasky, Spiegel revealed that Snapchat was approaching Twitter’s mobile scale. “We have reached abnormal levels of growth,” Spiegel wrote.

Snapchat has so many users, it’s not just a startup in growth mode anymore. It’s trying to become a full-on platform, the same way Facebook expanded beyond profiles to things like Groups, Search and NewsFeed. In January, Snapchat rolled out Discover, a partnership with a few major news sites, to publish content and videos on the app.

Snapchat did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Waze is currently one of the navigation application is very helpful for users of smartphones. What's on in the area that is filled with jam. However, different things seen by law enforcers in the United States.

The features that are considered could harm the safety of the police officers while on duty are features that provide information on the position of police officers in the field. Even such features related, head of the LAPD Charlie Beck delivered a letter to Waze. In the letter, Beck wrote when the police in Waze could be abused by criminals. To that end, Beck also wanted those features are turned off by the Waze.

The presence of police on Waze icons actually could be quite useful. Especially when a road user needs help from the officer. But, on the contrary, the existence of an icon that tells the existence of police officers on the field it can also be bad. Especially for criminals who want to intend bad to the officers.
